Conservation
We are currently engaged in a bid to purchase Carwynnen Quoit, also known as the Giants Quoit. Now in a ruined state, the quoit was once likened to Lanyon Quoit. It has also been called 'The Devil's Frying Pan' set in what was known in old tithe records as 'Frying Pan Field'. The Quoit is set in 5 acres of land, a strip of which would be planted with indigenous trees to extend a wildlife corridor between two adjoining woods. The area around it would be designed to provide an appropriate setting for the Quoit based on how the area might have looked when it was first erected.

Picnic at Carwynnen Quoit

"There is present little doubt amount antiquaries with respect to the originall Cromlech; it is generally believed to be a sepulchral monument used by the Druids to mark the places of interment of the Druid chief or such princes as were favourable to their order" John Greig 1808

When the mansion house at Pendarves burnt down this stone was rescued by a member of a local family from a neighbouring Estate. Given to the Sustainable Trust for safekeeping , it shows the initials of William Pendarves. We intend to build it into the entrance to the restored quoit.
We need to raise funds
- to buy Carwynnen Quoit
- to restore Carwynnen Quoit properly with the right archaeological advice
- to maintain Carwynnen Quoit and enhance its setting. A series of events will be held to extend the project to include more sections of the community.
